The Details:
Circle Bar B Ranch is located just a short 20 miles due north of Santa Barbara off of California Highway 101. Take the Refugio exit and hang a right 3 and one-half miles up a bucolic winding tree-shaded road that leads right to the ranch. What makes Circle Bar B Ranch so good for Southern Californians is that it's one of few honest-to-gosh "dude" ranches within easy driving distance from the Los Angeles basin. And it is to this peaceful refuge that I have traveled many times. Say hi for me to whomever member of the Brown family greets you when you arrive. They'll immediately make you feel right at home. Days are filled on hikes, on horseback, or on ranch-time (which basically doesn't exist...except for the promptness of meal times). Sit on the expansive stone deck and simply listen...to a resident cat purring near by, to a humming bird flitting about, to the shreek of a hawk flying overhead, to the restive bay of your favorite horse awaiting you in the corral. If you're lucky enough to be there on Friday night, you're in for one heck of a treat for dinner...mouth-watering Santa Maria style Tri-Tip barbeque. Yippee....Kayiaaa...buckaroos.
